A gem takes on new luster. The building complex of the Old Customs Office is now being revitalized on the tract of the former north freight station. This is the beginning of a major development here. The comprehensive planning is for the most modern industrial park - mainly for research and technology. This mixture of high-tech and historic building architecture, intermingled with green spaces, will endow the area with a unique character and special charm.
The prelude to the development of the former freight station is to convert the old customs office complex together with the area in front of the building. The specifications of the monument protection authorities are being fully implemented. The fascinating shells of the historic buildings and attractive industrial architecture of the halls are preserved while fulfilling the demands of contemporary buildings.
The complex should be ready for occupation in the first half of 2009. One part is already rented and will be handed over to its first tenant following the conversion. Tenants today are eager to have the special ambience and flair of a revitalized historic building.
